The Box of Scenery

I love watching television. It’s a way of reaching out to the world. American, Korean, Taiwan, Japanese, Hong Kong and Chinese. I just simply like to indulge myself in those beautifully presented visual impact. I can sit in front of a TV for the whole day. Yup, I’m wearing specs but never mind that. Recently, I’m addicted to a Hong Kong TV series, War and Beauty. It’s a story about the women in the palace in the Ching Dynasty of China. It begins with the execution of a concubine who had offended the most powerful concubine in Zi Jin Cheng (the Royal Palace) - Ru Fei. The Empress who once caused Ru Fei to have a miscarriage then steps into the picture. Their bad tidings reach the climax when several new Gui Ren (concubine of lower status) are elected. And these Gui Ren have their own conspiracies, including falling in love with an imperial physician and plotting to overthrown the Empress and Ru Fei. The ending is not to my liking but it’s truthful. Happy ending sometimes is too vulnerable compared to the harsh reality (please watch The Memoirs Of A Geisha if you do not believe). Love is hard to find.
